Kurt Peters comes to El Camino College bringing years of coaching experience at the high school and club levels. He was an All CIF selection as an outside hitter in 1996 for a Mira Costa High School team that was both CIF and national champions. In 1998 and 1999 he was named First Team All South Coast Conference as a setter at El Camino College. He went on to start as a back row specialist, and back-up setter at Loyola Marymount University, then a Division I school. He earned a degree in history while at LMU. An established beach player, he held a “Triple A” beach rating from 1999-2003.

Peters can still be found on the beach playing competitively and he still plays in beach tournaments. In fact, his beach six-man team is among the elite teams in the South Bay area featuring the likes of Sean Rosenthal, Sean Rooney, Mark Williams, Jason Pursley, Aaron Wachfogel, and Josh Cannon, to name a few.

Kurt is now a residential real estate broker in the South Bay for Marquis Financial. On the weekends he is a tournament director, running beach events at Rosecrans Street in Manhattan Beach for the California Beach Volleyball Association. He has also been dispatched by USA volleyball abroad to help scout foreign teams for our USA beach teams for the upcoming Olympics.

His sister Dana was also an All South Coast Conference player in 2000-01 at El Camino College. She went on to play at Chapman University and earned a degree in art. She tied a school record for kills in a match at 27. Kurt’s father, Bill, attended El Camino College from 1971-72. Bill has retired after 29 years in the Los Angeles County Fire Department and spends his days in search of new fly fishing holes in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Kurt’s grandfather, Bill Sr., also attended El Camino College and was the first Athlete of the Year in 1947-48 as a member of the following teams: football, basketball, swim & diving, and track teams. Bill Sr. was a physical education teacher, football coach and athletic director at Inglewood High School for more than 30 years. He was inducted into the El Camino College Hall of Fame in 2000. Kurt's mom, Nina is a retired Los Angeles County librarian.
