Angela Rock

Angela Rock brings twenty years of experience as a player, coach and clinician to Southwestern College that reflect her passion and dedication to the sport of volleyball.

Coach Rock graduated with a degree in psychology from San Diego State University where she participated on two NCAA Final Four Volleyball teams in 1981 and 1982 and received First Team All American honors as an outside hitter on the Aztecs Women’s NCAA Volleyball Team in 1984. In recognition for her outstanding play, Rock was honored and inducted into the SDSU Hall of Fame in 1991. Rock then went on to earn her M.S. in Education from National University and M.S. in Physical Education from Azusa.

Internationally Coach Rock played on the United States National Team for five years, winning Team USA ‘s prestigious Most Valuable Player in 1985. She also participated in the 1986 Goodwill Games and World Championships, the 1987 Pan American Games, and most notably, the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea where the Americans placed seventh.

From 1987 to 2000, Rock was a major force on both the Women’s Professional Volleyball Association (WPVA) and Federation de International Volleyball (FIVB) tours. She ranks 3rd in career earnings and won 27 events, including 12 titles in 1991 when she was voted the tour’s Best Hitter.

Rock’s education and coaching career is as impressive. She earned her M.S. in education from National University and will soon complete her second masters at Azuza Pacific. She has also been Assistant Coach at UC Santa Barbara and Head Coach at Alaska-Fairbanks, a Division II college, where she set a school record for Pacific-West Conference victories. In addition, Rock coached club volleyball at Rancho Santa Fe, Surf, and Coast, all premier clubs in San Diego, her hometown. Recently as Head Coach of Cuyamaca College for the past two years, Rock lead her team to a second place finish in 2006 after the Coyotes finished in 6th place prior to her arrival.

Coach Rock is excited to be a Jaguar. She is looking forward to building a successful intercollegiate volleyball program and creating opportunities for her players at Southwestern College.
